Key Management and Rotation
Dark Matter Labs understands that a cryptographic device should manage the entire life-cycle of cryptographic keys, not just key entry and deletion. JANA allows for multiple-user key-splitting during key entry, a requirement for Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance. JANA also provides security features for local or remote individual user key activation.
Most importantly, JANA devices include a powerful, yet simple, key rotation feature that rotates keys in a periodic fashion according to your business requirements without having to decrypt and re-encrypt all of your data. This allows key rotation to occur in real-time with no need to interrupt operations.
Superior Multi-Unit Configurations

JANA devices are designed to be deployed in a variety of configurations in concert with other JANA products. The Primary device acts as the master for all Secondary devices, regardless of their geographical locations. Up to 254 Secondary devices can be deployed in a co-located Primary-Secondary configuration. However, they can just as easily be spread out globally to provide support to other facilities or to provide redundancy by geographical separation (if used in a VPN configuration over a WAN). Multi-unit configurations can also be used with load balancers to increase cryptographic processing efficiency and provide high availability when needed.
Database Independence and Unrestricted Application Accessibility
JANA devices are designed to operate with any custom application or database type. This provides a powerful advantage to small and medium sized businesses that may not operate expensive or highly complex databases. Simple coding, as directed by support documentation, is inserted into the customer's applications which then pass data to and from the JANA for encryption or decryption. This allows for maximum implementation flexibility for custom applications with few, if any, limitations to the use of the JANA.
